Patti Child is the director of Venice Nutrition Pikes Peak and is a certified nutrition coach and Life Wellness Coach. Patti has been involved in fitness and health her whole life, mainly learning and training with top trainers in the country to improve her own fitness and athletic goals.

Having personally struggled with dieting and the damage it can do to the body as well as watching many others around her going from diet to diet and fitness program to fitness program Patti started searching several years ago for a program that would allow her to keep running the long distances she enjoyed and an eating program that was balanced, did not create depravation and was about working with the body, not against it. Patti was tired of the “quick fixes” and focused on long term success. Venice Nutrition was it, a system designed to be customized to work with any individual and create balance in the body by creating blood sugar stabilization.

Patti implemented the program into her life and for the first time in years she was increasing her running miles, not decreasing them. She felt leaner and stronger than she had in years and was not dealing with the afternoon slump or emotional highs and lows she had experienced in the past with other programs she had tried.

She decided that she needed to share this life changing program with those around her and thus was the beginning of a new business, Venice Nutrition Pikes Peak.

Crystal Nicole's Bio

Crystal NicoleCertified Nutrition Coach

As a child growing up in Oregon and Florida, a natural interest in health developed from my mom’s studies in Holistic Medicine. On my dad’s side of the family, I encountered the consequences of genetics and unhealthy eating, resulting in a high degree of obesity. My experience with both ends of the health spectrum influenced my passion for health, and my determination to make a difference in my own life, as well as the lives of others.

As a teenager, personal challenges resulting from back, knee, and weight issues, spurred interest in physical fitness and nutrition.

After moving to California, in my early twenties, I began looking into Physical Therapy, but immediately decided to focus on preventative health measures through balanced fitness and nutrition instead. Beginning with my NASM certification as a Personal Trainer and following that up with my certification through Venice Nutrition as a Nutrition Coach, I now work closely with Joanne Lee in sharing the ways to balanced and healthy living through fun, effective workouts, and tasty nutritional eating.

Currently living in Colorado Springs, I look to carry on the wisdom, knowledge, and experience gained from working closely with expert Health Professionals in Venice Beach by focusing on individualized nutritional coaching, group exercise instruction, as well as youth fitness and nutrition conditioning.

MY STORY

Healthy eating wasn’t much of an importance at grandma and grandpa Martinez’ dinner table. Growing up in Oregon with a huge family, many of which were slightly overweight, we had family get-togethers every weekend with sweets, treats, and all the home made tortillas you could get your hands on. With all this said, it wasn’t much of a surprise that I was a slightly overweight child myself.

Not long after my 7th birthday, a move to Florida with my mom and brother served as a great benefit to my health. With my mom studying Holistic Medicine in her college years, she instilled much knowledge of living a healthy lifestyle to my brother and me. Then along came a huge obstacle for me, when at a doctor visit to see about some back pain I was having, I was diagnosed with Scoliosis. In pain and a little scared, I took on a greater interest into my own health.

Trying to find my place after high school, I began to have an interest in the Physical Therapy field. I developed a great passion for helping others in need and discovered the immense gratification that comes from this industry. Knowing very little about the human body, other than some Anatomy and Physiology courses, I came across a very educational and highly respected Personal Training certification course from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). I took this intense new study on full force. With much excitement and curiosity, I quickly learned a great deal in a very short amount time.

In my early twenties and living in California at this time, I stumbled upon a “Meetup” group having a free health and nutrition seminar, hosted by a woman named Joanne Lee. I decided to check it out and am so glad I did, Joanne’s passion and expertise just filled the room as she spoke, having all of us on the edge of our seats and wide eyed with excitement and anxiousness for the challenge she gave us to take our health into our own hands. I soon began training with Joanne at Gold’s gym in Venice Beach, while also learning about an amazing nutrition program known as Venice Nutrition.

I quickly fell in love with the software from the moment I started using and applying it into my life, while also realizing that this program could help many more people just as it helped me. So I inquired about becoming a certified nutrition coach. What I loved most about the program and company itself, was the fact that Venice Nutrition educates people to learn for themselves first hand the difference between “dieting” and creating a balance with their bodies through nutrition and exercise. This was a new concept to me, as I have tried way too many diets to name, and had little to no success! So having someone actually teaching me how to create homeostasis within my own body, and experiencing the benefits for the rest of my life, was a whole new challenge for me. After Joanne Lee took me under her wing and served as my mentor, I have had great success with my own health, and am eager to help in educating others.

Now bringing my own knowledge and experience, as well as the Venice Nutrition expertise, to Colorado Springs, I am anxious to see who is ready to benefit from our program, and how far we can go in this active and fit community. With a thirst for learning, I am planning to further my education in nutrition, corrective exercise, performance enhancement exercise, as well as youth fitness and nutrition. With these interests and my hard work and dedication, I know my passion for preventative health care, through fitness and nutrition, will lead me to my next chapter of life...

Patti Child's Bio

Patti ChildCertified Nutrition Coach & Life Wellness Coach

Everyone has their own ideas regarding health and fitness. Some want to pack on muscle like Arnold. Others may want to stay lean to run a marathon. Many would simply like to not be embarrassed in their swim suit. Looking back on the myriad of directions my journey has taken, I realize my quest has been to achieve BALANCE. Understanding the relation between what I eat and how I feel physically and emotionally, and how this affects all areas of my life has been a major key to enjoying a peaceful and balanced life.

As a young child I wrestled with emotional issues that were later diagnosed as a result of food allergies. Something as innocent as chocolate was the cause of nightmares and severe mood swings. When the doctors finally realized the problems and recommended a change in diet, the results were amazing. I learned that in my case, the foods I eat have a direct correlation to the way I feel; not just physically - but emotionally as well.

In school I got involved with every sport available eventually focusing on track. I always loved to run, and winning awards and setting records got the attention of my coaches. Even though their motives were good, they pushed me to lose any and all extra weight that may hinder my lap times. Between the emotional issues and now my coaches expectations, I eventually developed an eating disorder. While many people think eating disorders are about food, they are mainly developed by a persons desperate need for control, and or balance. When you feel like life is a whirlwind and you are flying debris, control of any area of life is craved. I was determined not to disappoint my coaches, and I would not be overweight like my mother. Although, over the years I have discovered that being skinny does not necessarily equal healthy.

Always my harshest critic, even though people would compliment my figure and fitness, I was never truly happy with my body. I wanted to be thinner, and would try every new fad diet on the market. Cabbage soup diet, only veggies, only fruit, no fat, no carbohydrates, you name it, I've tried it. This unhealthy cycle went on and on for years. By the time I was desperate enough to admit to myself that what I was doing was not working, I was a mess. I had done a lot of damage to my body without realizing it. The years of deprivation diets and the damage I had done to my metabolism had put my body in shock. When I went to get help with the out of control emotions, I gained 30 lbs. the first six months. I eventually lost the weight, and even though people would tell me how good I looked, they were unaware how unhealthy I felt. I still was missing the information to create balance in my body. Looking good while feeling bad is not balance.

Most of my exercise came from endurance sports such as running. Even though I was logging quite a few miles, I began to see changes in my body I was not happy with. My arms were a little flabby and my back was often in pain. I was introduced to weight lifting, change in my body began to happen! Combined with eating smaller portions five to six times a day I dropped 20 lbs. and 10% body fat. Exciting as this was, I soon plateaued and for almost a year I put in hard workouts with little change. I was within 7 lbs of my goal and could not get there. I had the will, I just needed the way. I knew I could no longer do the old way of dropping those last few pounds-deprivation and no carbohydrates. Enter Venice Nutrition. It was through their expertise that I learned the importance of maintaining stable blood sugars, and how the body runs optimally when food is metabolized at the correct intervals throughout the day. This was the key to breaking through my plateau, along with the unexpected benefits of more stable emotions and the eliminations of my daily 3 pm crash.

I have worked with some of the top fitness trainers, I have trained with certified professionals in sports and fitness for running and sports and yet none have given me the education or guidance that created the balance in my body I needed until Venice Nutrition. I have experimented with many things in my past and can now say I can stop looking and trying new things. The benefits have been real and they are lasting. My body is leaner, stronger and more toned than it has been in years.

Proverbs 24:3-4 - By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
